Friday, April 23 – Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic State Park, Cross Creek
In celebration of Florida’s Earth Day, we planted sixteen trees near the Kate Barns Boat Ramp, on the western shore of Lake Orange, just south of the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings House, Species planted included bald cypress (Taxodium distichum), Bluff oak (Quercus austrina), ‘East Palatka’ holly (Ilex x attenuata), Live oak (Quercus geminata), and longleaf pine (Pinus palustris).
Saturday, March 13 – Owen Illinois Park, Newnan’s Lake, Gainesville
A lively gathering of UF faculty and students, and students of the PK Yonge Developmental Research School Climate Action Club and their families, planted twenty-three American elms (Ulmus americana) along the mile-long entrance to the park, on the southeastern shore of Newnans Lake.
Saturday, February 27 – E.P. Powers Park, Newnans Lake, Gainesville
We returned to the southwestern shore of Newnans Lake to plant fifteen additional trees near the E.P. Powers Boat Ramp (5910 SE Hawthorne Road). Planted species included American holly (Ilex opaca), Live oak (Quercus geminata), Long leaf pine (Pinus palustris), and swamp chestnut oak (Quercus michauxii).
Friday, January 15 – E.P. Powers Park, Newnans Lake, Gainesville
In celebration of Florida’s Arbor Day, eighteen trees were planted near the E.P. Powers Boat Ramp (5910 SE Hawthorne Road), at the southwestern shore of Newnans Lake. Planted species included bald cypress (Taxodium distichum), live oaks (Quercus geminata), long leaf pine (Pinus palustris), Dahoon holly (Ilex cassine), and Yaupon holly (Ilex vomitoria).
